DEVELOPMENT OF THE AGRO-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX OF SAUDI ARABIA

Abstract

In 2016 Saudi Arabia launched the «Vision: 2030» program to modernize the state and reduce the share of oil revenues in the country’s economy. One of the most important points of the program are measures aimed at stabilizing food security in the context of low levels of food self-sufficiency. This article examines the measures taken by the Saudi Arabian government to achieve food self-sufficiency, including the development of agricultural technologies, stimulation of local production, and the creation of strategic reserves. Particular attention is paid to the role of international cooperation in Saudi Arabia’s food security. Thus, the trends in relations with the KSA’s main export (UAE, Jordan, etc.) and import (Russia, China, etc.) partners are highlighted, and the impact of these relations on the kingdom’s food security is analyzed. The article concludes by examining the prospects for achieving food security in Saudi Arabia in the context of «Vision: 2030», analyzing forecasts of future trends and challenges.
